Sounds like our good friends across the pond have gotten tired of all the rumors swirling about the future of the James Bond franchise, because the series has just officially announced a new movie is definitely coming, and it already has a release date.
It was kind of inevitable that noted 9/11 truther Charlie Sheen would make a movie about that day, but it’s a little surprising that not only Gina Gershon, but Whoopi Goldberg would both agree to star in it. Not surprising: the trailer for Sheen’s 9/11 is shockingly, impressively bad.
Pixar}s creative chief John Lasseter, who has directed all three of the Toy Story movies so far, has stepped down as director of Toy Story 4. He revealed as much during Pixar’s presentation at D23 on Friday, where he also introduced the film’s new co-directors, Josh Cooley, who wrote and directed Riley’s First Date (and who was going to co-direct with Lasseter), and Jonas Rivera, who produced Up and Inside Out.
The D23 Expo has kicked off, and Pixar is already getting us stoked for all of their upcoming projects. The Wreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, will bring analog Ralph and his candy-obsessed pals from Sugar Rush into the digital age, and now we know exactly how Pixar will do it.
The Incredibles 2 is coming, finally, after thirteen long, arduous years of waiting, and while we don’t know much about the actual plot, we do know that it’ll start right where the first movie left off. If you recall, after the Parr family defeats angsty supervillain Syndrome and his marauding Omnidroid, they have a few months of normalcy before another baddie enters the fray. The Underminer, voiced by Jon Ratzenberger, explodes out of the ground at the controls of a massive drilling machine, and the final shot of the movie is the Parrs tensing up for a fight.
Daniel Day-Lewis is primarily known for his method acting: it can take him years to fully prepare for a role, and he’s the kind of actor who really likes to immerse himself in the material. Remember when he had the Lincoln cast and crew and Steven Spielberg calling him Mr. President? Up until now, he’s never gone so method that he can’t get back out again, but if the rumors are true, his latest role might have inspired a career change.
With all the excitement over Mary Poppins Returns brewing lately, a lot of fans have been wondering if the O.G. Poppins, Julie Andrews, will be making a cameo appearance. As it turns out, Andrews is in full support of the sequel, but she won’t be in it, and she has a very good reason why.
Tom Cruise’s The Mummy is the beginning of a new Dark Universe for Universal Studios, and as such is tasked with connecting this film to a bunch of other ones in the franchise. The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, and a bunch of others will soon be hitting the big screen, all under the Dark Universe umbrella. So, what fits them all together? The plot device — I mean, the Prodigium, of course.
Some days it seems like a new sequel rumor hits the Internet every day. Whispers of Top Gun 2 have been floating around the stratosphere for a few years, with the movie even getting a screenwriter at one point, Val Kilmer vowing to return, and even a mysterious meeting with Jerry Bruckheimer. Sometimes, because of timing or lack of resources or myriad other reasons, sequels just don’t end up happening even if they’re hyped. But today brings good news for Top Gun 2 hopefuls: it’s definitely happening, and Tom Cruise himself says it’ll start filming within the next twelve months.
It’s that time again: time to round up everything coming and going from all the streaming services at the start of the new month. Netflix has a pretty fantastic slate for this June, which includes their Cannes contender Okja, directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Tilda Swinton and Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s also a few popular 2016 releases like Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World, and Catfight, that movie about Sandra Oh and Anne Heche beating the living daylights out of each other. And if you want to hear a bunch of animated plants sing Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” give Trolls a shot.
