Crude Oil Trains by the Hudson-Are We in Danger?
The recent derailment of a train carrying Crude Oil in Lynchburgh, Virginia has raised concerns about safety here in the Hudson Valley. You probably have seen those freight trains running on the Ulster/Orange County side of the Hudson.
They often are carrying Crude Oil and because they are so long, there is a fear of derailment. Some have said that the containers holding this highly flammable crude are nothing more than a “Pepsi Can on Wheels”.
Environmental groups in the valley held a public meeting the other night to inform the public of what could happen. Mid Hudson News filed this story.
Could this happen in our area? If it did the consequences to the river and people living by it would be dire.
