It's hard to believe that almost two years have passed, but the Angelica Graswald murder trial looks like it will finally begin next month.

When news broke about the Kayaking death on April 19th, 2015 - the valley was shocked. Many locals knew both Graswald and her fiance Vincent Viafore. In my opinion there was too much coverage and speculation about what happened on the river that day. It seemed like everyone was jumping to conclusions and frankly, Graswald's behavior fueled a lot of it.

The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting that jury selection will begin in Orange County on March 13th. Angelica has pleaded not guilty to the second degree murder and manslaughter charges. One thing that has kept the trial from happening sooner is the question of evidence that can be admitted.

In December, Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill ruled that prosecutors will be able to use the majority of videotaped and other statements Graswald made to police after Viafore's death, including two alleged confessions she made to police — one of which was video-taped.

Graswald has been in jail since April of 2015 on $3 million bail. Her defense team contends that Viafore's death was a tragic accident and just because she said she was happy he is gone, doesn't mean that she killed him. This will be a highly publicized trial that could go on for a long time.
