Photos of this dessert served at the Alexis Diner in Newburgh have gone viral this week, being shared thousands of times. The photos were uploaded to Facebook by Claudia Rios just after midnight on Wednesday.

The photos show a very moldy piece of banana cream pie. At first glance, it almost looks like blueberries, sadly that is not the case.

The group thought things tasted a little off, and then they made the discovery.

Rios and her group were mortified upon finding the mold. The group brought it to the waitresses' attention and were told that the dessert would be removed from the bill. The waitress did offer another dessert on the house, but the group refused.

According to Rios, a manager did not address the issue at the time. It seems the waitress did her best to handle the situation but definitely should've told the manager.

The Alexis Diner's menu clearly states, "All of our delicious cakes, pies, Danish and pastries are prepared in our own bakery on premises."

Spending many years myself working in the food service industry, I understand these things can happen. So, we decided to call the Alexis and see if they would comment on this incident.

We talked with Manager Jeff Bonanno, who was aware of the pictures.

Bonanno said:

This is one piece of pie that shouldn't have been served. The pie was removed from the case to be disposed of, and the waitress cut a piece from it and served it. The waitress is new to working there. We have two bakers who bake everyday. I was off the day the incident happened, and it should have been handled much differently. The entire check should have been comped. The last thing you want to do in that situation is offer another dessert. We've been in business for 29 years, serving over 15,000 customers a week and have never had an incident like this. There must be better communication among my managers.

What would do if you were served this dessert?
