Hudson Valley Restaurants With Most Health Code Violations, Murder Sentencing Top This Week in Local News


The Hudson Valley restaurants with the most health code violations and a number of sentencings for some horrific crimes are in included this week’s Top 5 local news stories.

An Orange County man is heading to prison for a fatal drunk driving accident. Michael Rule was sentenced to two to seven years in prison. In June of 2016, the 33-year-old from Pine Bush hit and killed Louis DeJesus who was walking near his New Windsor home. Rule was drunk at the time of the crash, police say.

A Hudson Valley teen was sentenced for the murder of an 81-year-old woman. Jennifer P. Molyneaux of Wallkill was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. In April of 2014, Molyneaux and her then boyfriend Devin Giordano, entered Helen Mills Goshen home to steal from her. During a struggle Molyneaux, who’s now 19, killed Mills. Giordano is serving 20 years to life in prison.

A Hudson Valley mother who admitted she caused her infant daughter’s death was sentenced. In July of 2016, Kayla Pagan left her infant daughter alone for several minutes as a bathtub filled with water. The baby drowned. The 26-year-old from Marlboro was sentenced to undisclosed period of local imprisonment and five years probation

A Hudson Valley police chief was shot. After a long standoff with police the alleged shooter is dead from a gunshot wound. Tuesday, Antony Bostick barricaded himself at a Maybrook home. During talks with police the 28-year-old shot the Maybrook police chief in the shoulder. The Chief is expected to live. Hours later, Bostick was found dead in the home. It’s unclear how he died.

So far in 2017, eight local restaurants were cited with five or more critical violations. The Bright Star Diner in Central Valley received a violation for parts of the restaurant that was contaminated by sewage dripping. Itzmi in Newburgh was cited for employees not washing their hands. Irish Eyes in New Windsor received 10 critical violations. The restaurants were given the opportunity to correct the violations and in somes case they were.
