The Catskill Mountains are a destination for winter sports, but would you ever want to scale a frozen waterfall?

Ice climbing on the cliffs and waterfalls in the Catskill Mountains is becoming a bigger and bigger draw each year. The recent cold snap has put almost all waterfalls into a beautiful state of immobility. Heck - even Niagara Falls is frozen solid! Scaling the side of a frozen waterfall may not be your thing, especially after seeing this guy at the top of Kaaterskill Falls.

This is on the way to Hunter Mountain and I love to ski, but I don't think ice climbing is for me. However, if you would like to try it out, you should check with Catskill Ice Climbing. According to their website, this adrenaline junkie adventure has been going on for a while.

Ice climbing in the Catskills has been going on for four decades and much of the history is unknown.

Many of the people who go ice climbing come up from New York City, but I have talked to a few locals who love it too. I guess if you are brave enough to scale "The Gunks" in the summertime, why not take on a frozen waterfall?
