Legoland Theme Park Jumps Another Hurdle in Orange County
Legoland has moved another step closer to coming to Orange County. On Thursday Legoland won the IDA pilot agreement. A report online with MidHudsonNews.com says a 20-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement has been reached between the Orange County Industrial Development Agency and Merlin Entertainments Group. That group is the parent company of Legoland Theme Parks.
This gives the group approval for sales and use tax exemption for construction of the project. The group was originally sought a 30-year pilot agreement, but the IDA studied the ramifications and was more comfortable with a 20-year alternative. The Legoland project still needs final town approvals but now those are approvals are that much closer.
Merlin Entertainment Group plans to build a Legoland Theme Park in the Town of Goshen in Orange County. New York State, Orange County and local officials have been in support of the project for the economy growth it could bring to the region.
