The Catharine Street Community Center will hold their 27th annual Martin Luther King Jr Breakfast at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Friday, January, 19 at 7:15am.  This is the largest celebration of Martin Luther King Jr in the Hudson Valley region.

Each year, a keynote address is given at the breakfast.  This year, the speaker will be WCBS TV Channel News Anchor Maurice DuBois.  He has received the New York Association of Black Journalists’ Trailblazer Award.  DuBois has covered breaking news stories, moderated debates for New York City Mayor and congressional elections.  He holds four honorary PhDs and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  DuBois has been honored by the Associated Press and the New York State Broadcasters Association, plus sits on several non-profit boards.  He has also won a number of journalism and community awards including five Emmys.

At the annual breakfast, two Poughkeepsie High School students will be honored for their commitment to their academics and the local community.  The two seniors are Hope T. Tangunu and Ayo S. Opuiyo. Also, being honored are two community members, Sheriff Butch Anderson and Dr Dennis Murray, President Emeritus of Marist College.  For over twenty years, both of these men have been devoted supporters of the Catherine Street Community Center.  The musical group Rayford Watkins & Spirit of Unity Musicians will perform at the event. Tickets are still available for the event.
