NBC Developing The Beatles Story as Event Series from ‘Vikings’ Creator
We’ll say this for NBC, they’re nothing if not persistent with their attention-grabbing TV events. Following the failure of horror remake miniseries ‘Rosemary’s Baby,’ the peacock is looking a little lighter with a proposed event series telling the story of history’s most iconic band, none other than The Beatles.
According to Deadline, the project in its early stages will be shepherded by ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Vikings‘ creator Michael Hirst, with ‘Tudors’ executive producers Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg also on board the creative team. The series has been said to span eight episodes, covering the history of the group from formation to an undisclosed point after their apex.
Whatever form NBC’s Beatles event miniseries takes, the project is just one of the many head-turning prospects in development and airing over the past year, including the live rendition of ‘The Sound of Music’ (soon to be followed by a live rendition of ‘Peter Pan’), and ‘The Bible’ sequel series ‘A.D.‘ This early in the game, it would be too soon to say who might take on the roles of either John, Paul, George or Ringo, particularly as NBC has yet to set a projected date for the series.
Well, what do you think? Could NBC make a Beatles event series work to tell the Fab Four’s story, or is this ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ all over again?
