A couple of years ago I got into trouble by making up a story about an aquarium at the Mall. I even put a fake blog about it on our website. Hey-it was April Fools Day and you know this was harmless fun.

Turns out that it is a pretty good idea and I still think it would work here in the Hudson Valley. There are Malls all over the world that have large aquariums inside them. There is one that just opened in the Albany area that I will tell you about in a minute. Check out video of the incredible Aquarium at the Mall in Dubai.

That is just ridiculous. Of course Dubai is one of the wealthiest country's in the world. I was thinking big at the Poughkeepsie Galleria, but not this huge. There is a pretty good size tank in a Mall near Albany.

It is called the Via Aquarium and it is now open in a mall that was pretty empty. According to the Albany Business Review, the Via is pretty big and they expect it to draw lots of people every year.

It has more than 2,000 freshwater and saltwater creatures, a 360-degree ocean tunnel, stingray touching tank, and the chance to view a live piranha feeding. Families, school groups, day-trippers and birthday parties are expected to draw upward of 500,000 visitors annually.

Sounds like a roadtrip, unless of course somebody takes me up on my idea for the "center court deep dive experience" here in Poughkeepsie?
