Ellenville Central Schools went on lock down this morning, Wednesday, October 4, around 10:30am. According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s office, there was a report around 10:30am this morning of a man walking near the Ellenville schools. The man had a rifle. School officials locked down the building and notified the Ellenville Police Department.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s office reports that an investigation was conducted by the Ellenville Police department. They determined there was not a creditable threat to detain the subject. The lock down was lifted for the school district and matter dismissed around 12:12pm. No word from police on the subject and why he had a rifle and walking near the district’s property. The sheriffs don’t indicate that the school was in any danger during the situation, the lock down was out of precaution for the children’s safety. During a lock down, no persons were allowed to enter or leave the school.
