Tense moments Friday night, when a white powder was found on the train tracks in Saugerties.  The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and 911 around 7:30pm Friday night indicated there was a possible train leaking white dust.  According to a report online with the Daily Freeman, Patterson Road was closed and the tracks were shut down.

The white line of powder was on the CSX train tracks in Saugerties and was all down the line.  The Malden -West Camp Fire department was called to the scene and determined the powder was harmless.  Saugerties Police Chief Sinagra said the train company had spread lime along the track as part of a vegetation mitigation plan, something the company at first denied.

This is second incident, within a two-month period that the police chief feels are a waste of time for the agency, all because they won’t communicate with local agencies.  The road was reopened about an hour and fifteen minutes later.
